OnStage Casts Singin’ in the Rain
After a marathon audition session lasting more than a week, including call-backs, Singin’ in the Rain has finally found the power-house cast the OnStage team has been looking for. Many fine actors auditioned, but only a few could be chosen. The decisions were difficult and many talented people (much to our regret) had to be turned away, but the deed is done and Rain is now in rehearsals. Maurer Productions OnStage would like to thank everyone who took the time to audition for this exciting show, and we especially want to thank the actors who have now committed the next several months of their life to making Rain a mega-success.
OnStage’s production of Singin’ in the Rain will open on Friday, March 28, 2008 at the Kelsey Theatre. When it does, this is the talented cast you will see on stage:

Behind the Scenes with Driving Miss Daisy
Producer/Director Dan Maurer is chronicaling the making of OnStage’s production of Driving Miss Daisy. Daisy Postings will be published on the company blog called Backstage@OnStage and will be supplemented by various topics covering local theatre. Driving Miss Daisy, which features Eve Connolly as Daisy Werthan, Allwyn Baskin as Hoke Coleburn, and Lonnie McCullough as Boolie Werthan, is already half-way through its rehearsal schedule. The OnStage blog includes a feature for posting comments regarding specific postings. OnStage encourages everyone to read and comments on the blog.

Volunteers Needed for Backstage Running Crew
Both Singin’ in the Rain and Driving Miss Daisy are in need of volunteers to work on the backstage running crew. (All volunteers must have a drivers license and ready access to a car.) Folks working on Singin’ in the Rain can’t be afraid to get wet or push a mop (grin). If you have experience working backstage, we’d love to hear from you. Compensation for your time is nothing more than a smile, a hand-shake and the satisfaction of knowing you were part of a great production. And the cast parties are a lot of fun, too. What Do You Want to See Next Season?
Maurer Productions OnStage is busy researching shows for the 2008-2009 season. We’d love to hear from you. Now is the time to submit your suggestion for that show you’ve always wanted to be in but never got the chance! We are looking at musicals, plays (comedies and dramas), and children’s shows. There’s no guarantee your show will be chosen, and the only reward may be the chance to audition for a show you love. If you have some ideas in mind, please email them to info@mponstage.com

OnStage Alumni Celebrate the Season With Hit Shows
Several OnStage alumni and board members celebrated the season with successful productions of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas and Miracle on 34th Street. ‘Twas, a Kelsey tradition, featured several OnStage alumni. Caroline Maurer took on the coveted role of Charity Moore, which she shared Megan Shannon during the 11 performance run. Caroline is a veteran of OnStage’s productions of Winnie the Pooh and The Emperor’s New Clothes. Other OnStage alumni appearing in Twas included Kathleen Kutalek, Cindy George, Jamie George, Jett Bohonko and Kelsey Sheehan — all these fine actors appeared in OnStage’s production of The Emperor’s New Clothes.
Meanwhile, the cast of 34th Street featured a host of alumni. Tom Bessellieu, sound designer and engineer for many OnStage productions took the director’s seat for 34th Street, leading reviewer Stuart Duncan to write that “[Tom] has staged this show with obvious brilliance.” Meanwhile, OnStage board members John and Diana Maurer made appearances, as well as OnStage alumni Vicky Czarnick (Wonderful Life, Lucky Stiff), John Russell (Wonderful Life), Toni Campbell (Wonderful Life, Winnie the Pooh), Reed Schmidt (Wonderful Life), Ray Murphy (Wonderful Life, Winnie the Pooh) and Marty Berrien (Wonderful Life). Also in the cast were two future alums — Nicole Farina-Machin and Caroline Vassallo, who will both be appearing in OnStage’s upcoming production of Singin’ in the Rain.
We can’t think of a better way to celebrate the season than to watch our friends and family perform on stage. It sure beats fruit cake.

Get Ready to Kick Up Your Heels – Again!
The tap class for actors organized through the Kelsey Theatre was a huge success this semester. It yielded several cast members for Singin’ in the Rain. Due to the high interest from adults looking to brush up their skills for the stage, the class will held again in the New Year for those of you who were unable to take it this semester. Information will be forwarded as soon as it becomes available.
