Memories as fragile as glass are tossed into the air in Tennessee Williams' masterpiece. A frustrated mother, a daughter lost in her imagination, and a son intent on rebellion are the players in this classic drama, presented by Maurer Productions OnStage. By night, Tom dreams of a life like in the movies, but bay day he works in a factory. In the apartment he shares with mother, Amanda and sister Laura, the air hangs sick with the scent of sickly sweet flowers and his mother’s oppressive nostalgia. Laura barely survives it, a shadow of herself, clinging desperately to her only solace, a beloved collection of glass animals. When Amanda insists Tom bring home a gentleman caller for Laura, the fragile dreams of all three are shattered with consequences they may never escape.
The cast features Roberto Gianni Forero of Edison, NJ as Tom; Laurie Hardy of Hamilton, NJ as Amanda; Jessica Braynor of Lawrenceville, NJ as Laura and Malik Abdul Khaaliq of King of Prussa PA as Jim.
The show is directed by Judi Parrish and she notes "The Glass Menagerie is one of the greatest stories and one of the saddest autobiographies in American literature. The actors are not just playing 'characters' but are bringing to life people from an era long past."
The production team are producers Diana Gilman Maurer and John M. Maurer, Set Designer John M. Maurer, Lighting Designer M. Kitty Getlik, and Sound Designer Judi Parrish. Costumes are by Sally Page Sohor, hair & makeup by Erin Leder and the stage manager is Vicky Kaiser.
